On TikTok, you can apply different privacy settings to each post you share, whether your account is private or public. Your visibility settings help determine how your content is seen on TikTok. We provide tools that allow you to control who can see your posts and select the audience of each post.
You can choose to make your TikTok post available to everyone, restrict it to friends (followers you follow back) or followers, or make it private so that only you can view it. You can also adjust your settings later if you've changed your mind.
Keep in mind that all posts must follow our Community Guidelines. When we identify content that violates these policies, we remove it and notify the account owner.
Choose who can view your posts
To change the privacy setting on a new post:
1. Create your post or Story.
2. Tap the Settings button at the top of the preview screen and choose who can view your post. If you've taken a photo, tap the post settings at the bottom.
3. For video and photo posts, you can also manage your privacy settings from the post screen:
? If you have a public account, you can choose Everyone (people on or off TikTok), Friends (followers you follow back), or Only you.
? If you have a private account, you can choose Followers, Friends (followers you follow back), or Only you.
To change the privacy setting on an existing Story:
1. In the TikTok app, go to the Story you'd like to update. You can find your Stories in your Following feed, inbox, or profile.
2. Tap the Share button at the bottom, then tap Settings.
3. Choose who can view your post.
To change the privacy settings on an existing post:
1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom and go to the post you'd like to update.
2. Tap the More options … button on the side of the post.
3. Tap Privacy settings at the bottom. You may need to swipe left.
4. Choose who can view your post:
? If you have a public account, you can choose Everyone (people on or off TikTok), Friends (followers you follow back), or Only you.
? If you have a private account, you can choose Followers, Friends (followers you follow back), or Only you.
Note: The view count on your post reflects all views to date and doesn't reset if you update the privacy settings.
We recommend tagging your post if it contains themes that may not be appropriate for everyone. Content tagged as audience-controlled will be inaccessible to users under 18 years old, which helps limit exposure to content that may not be suitable for everyone.
Manage who can add your posts to their Story
You can choose to allow people to add your posts to their Stories. Keep in mind that your account must be public to manage this setting.
To manage who can add your posts to Stories:
1. In the TikTok App, tap Profile at the bottom.
2. Tap the Menu ? button at the top, then select Settings and privacy.
3. Tap Privacy.
4. Tap Reuse of content.
5. Tap Allow reuse of content from and choose who can add your posts to their Story.
Keep in mind that this setting will also affect who can Stitch, Duet, and create stickers with your posts.
Content visibility on TikTok
If you create content, it may be visible to others globally, even if that feature isn't available in your region. This includes content that you've already published through your TikTok account and future content.
